The Art Academy London Graduate Showcase

Join me at the AAL Mermaid Court campus near London bridge to celebrate my graduation from the AAL Contemporary Portrait Foundation Degree . The showcase is now opened until Tuesday 5 July, 12-5pm every day.

Over three paintings, we find a young woman under the limelight as she is about to get married and follows the rituals that precede her wedding day. With this series I look at the way we visualise and celebrate the lavish white wedding, and how this rite of passage has turned into a social performance.

My sources of inspiration for these paintings range from the Greek myth The Judgement of Paris to Leonardo’s Salvator Mundi and Edgar Degas’ Combing the Hair, all seen through the light of a Spanish Neo-baroque aesthetic. Rosalia, the Spanish contemporary flamenco and urban singer, plays the role of the bride-to-be.
